Editor’s note: to determine if you live in District 8 consult the City of Westmount’s electoral district map.
Dear District 8 Residents,
I have put together this bulletin to keep you informed on the happenings in our district. In the meantime, wishing you all a safe and happy summer.
- Sound Barrier Update: For the section west of Greene Ave (the portion of highway that was redone), court proceedings against the MTQ (Ministère des Transports du Québec) are ongoing. For the area between Atwater Ave & Greene Ave, the MTQ’s feasibility study for a sound wall is expected to be completed in the coming months. The intent is to have a public consultation by end of September.
. - The city is currently in discussions with the MTQ regarding the planning of Selby Park. Unfortunately, the process is taking longer than originally anticipated.
. - Repaving of Dorchester Blvd between Greene Ave and St. Catherine Street (westbound) is scheduled to start the week of June 28th and is expected to be completed by August 20th. The westbound lane was prioritized over the eastbound lane due to essential underground Hydro Westmount infrastructure work that needed to be carried out. This work will be carried out in tandem with the sidewalk and road paving work.
. - The city is in the process of evaluating various traffic calming measures to help control the speed of vehicles on Dorchester Blvd between St. Catherine Street and Columbia Ave.
. - Regarding the deteriorating property located at 4030 Dorchester Blvd, the city is working on resolving the issue in court.
. - The City of Montreal will be doing water main rehabilitation work on St. Antoine, which provides water service for both Westmount and Sud-Ouest. The project is expected to start in July and end in November.
. - The new Stayner Park splash pad is expected to be completed in early July.
. - More green space enhancements and flower boxes are planned for district 8.
. - In support of our merchants on Greene Ave (between Sherbrooke Street and St. Catherine Street), the street will be animated with some road painting and various street furniture to encourage pedestrian traffic. Let’s shop local!
. - I encourage everyone to participate in the Imagine Westmount 2040 Project (a complete revision of the City’s Urban Plan through a public participation process) at engage.westmount.org, as it will have a direct impact on development in the area. Your input is important!

Brava, councillor! Great accomplishments in four years of a first term. Thank you also for your involvement in the oversight and analysis of the city’s finances.
Let’s hope that the upcoming municipal election won’t be an opportunity for certain privileged and influential groups to seduce voters by pushing ambitious, expensive projects that are contrary to the wishes of the district’s residents who want more green space for this neglected area of Westmount.
