Catch Step is a dynamic trio that kicked off in 2022, bringing together three passionate artists: Anaïs Chloé Gilles (RISE), Delande Dorsaint (Djüngle), and Victoria Mackenzie (VicVersa). Together, they embody the diversity and richness of the street dance scene, combining their talents in dance, music, teaching, and event organization.

Their collaboration goes beyond just performing; they’re deeply involved in community development and energizing the urban arts scene. One of their standout projects is Catch Step HYA remix, featuring Lunice, EENO T, and Magnanimous. This show offers a unique “choose your own adventure” format, allowing audiences to engage with the performance freshly and interactively..

Catch Step is gearing up to present their very first full-length show at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines.

This versatile group pushes the boundaries of their art while actively contributing to their community through creative initiatives. In 2022, they made their debut at the Montreal Hip Hop Games, where they not only performed but also won the competition. Following this success, they showcased Never Not Moving by FRGMNT and participated in the International Hip Hop Games in Lille, France. Now, Catch Step is ready to take the stage with their most ambitious project yet, marking a new chapter in their journey.

In this artistic exploration, a collective of Montreal street dancers pushes the boundaries of their craft, weaving a complex tapestry of risk, physicality, temporality, and spatiality. The duo skillfully balances a vibrant physical world with a meticulously crafted soundscape. This captivating performance unfolds like an intricate game, seamlessly merging dynamic movement with musical precision. Adding an unexpected twist, chairs become part of the artistic journey, introducing a tangible and playful dimension that challenges expectations.

The remix embodies a process where ideas and material constantly evolve without losing their essence. Past creations serve as inspiration to enrich current collaborations, fostering a cycle of perpetual transformation. This approach honors previous efforts while laying a solid foundation for new projects, creating a dynamic connection between past and present in an ever-evolving artistic practice.

‘The remix lies at the heart of a process where ideas and material constantly evolve without ever being lost.’

Catch Step’s latest creation is a bold collaboration with the talented choreographer and remixer Handy Yacinthe, also known as HYA. Together, they push the boundaries of their art by crafting a physical universe inspired by the group’s creative foundations. This partnership delves into rhythmic signatures, transforms stage space, and redefines the duo format through intricate and captivating physicality.

The experience is further enriched by the contributions of three exceptional musicians. At its core, composer and performer Lunice creates a unique soundscape that evolves nightly within a semi-improvised framework designed specifically for the show. He is joined on stage by EENO T and Magnanimous, forming a musical trio that immerses the audience in an ever-evolving, mesmerizing sonic world.
